The Gallery at Liriodendron
Forever the Land
The Art and Writing of Kate & Russell Lord
April 27 – June 29, 2008 (Closed Memorial Day Weekend)

Forever the Land celebrates the work of Kate and Russell Lord and their circle of friends who began the interest in the U.S. in viewing land as a resource and in promoting modern farming techniques. The Lords published their magazine The Land from 1941 to 1954 in Bel Air. The exhibit was featured in the Sunday Sun Harford Section April 20, 2008.

The exhibit will include many more examples from the Lords' work. In conjunction with Liriodendron, the Historical Society of Harford County is producing a companion bulletin to the exhibit which will be on sale during the exhibit. The April issue of the Liriodendron members newsletter is dedicated to articles about the Lords and about Liriodendron's history as a farm.

Kate Kalkman Lord's art had a wide variety of topics, including buildings, life on the farm, and farm animals. The drawing below entitled Christmas after the War is a scene from Bel Air looking east on Office Street from Bond Street. This was the Lord's view from the Country Club Inn, which they renamed "The Landmark." The Masonic Temple and Court House are in view, right. Click on images to enlarge.
